Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. The US Department of Education distributes $150 billion per year in grants, work-study, and low-interest student loans. Surprisingly, elite colleges and universities offer the greatest financial aid opportunities for students, due to their enormous endowments. To begin the search for financial aid, you'll need to fill out the FAFSA, the federal student aid application. Please note that financial aid deadlines are strictly enforced, so submit your application early.

It isn't necessary to be enrolled in a degree program in order to sign up for online courses. Every class is recorded and stored on a remote server, which allows students to replay difficult sections as many times as required. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh tuition fees 2017There are about 7,000 accredited colleges and universities in the USA, which collectively enroll 15 million students, and award 2 million bachelors degrees every year. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. Financial Aid Awards

Literally millions of students that would have qualified for some financial aid didn't even apply for it, or were late in submitting required forms. The official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov. Many parents make errors when filling out the FAFSA, including forgetting to click the 'submit' button, leaving out some fields instead of entering a zero, or incorrectly entering their social security number.

Grants, Scholarships, and Loans

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike student loans, does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have never earned a bachelors or professional degree. The grant distribution will depend on demonstrated financial need, according to the FAFSA application, the cost of attendance, your status as a full-time or part-time student, and your plans to attend school for a full academic year or less. You may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from any more than one educational institution at a time.

Students who receive Federal Pell Grants and have extreme financial need will receive FSEOG grants first. The FSEOG grant program is administered directly by participating schools, so check with your financial aid office to find out if your school offers the FSEOG. Each participating school receives a certain amount of FSEOG funds each year from the US Department of Education, via the office of Federal Student Aid. This system works differently from the Federal Pell Grant Program, which provides grant funding to each eligible student.

The ScholarshipExperts.com website is a subscriber scholarship search service. When Federal student loans enter repayment, they are automatically enrolled in standard repayment. Under it, a borrower has 10 years to repay the total amount of his or her student loan debt. Loan programs generally issue loans based on the credit history of the applicant and any applicable cosigner. This is in contrast to federal loan programs that deal primarily with need-based criteria, as defined by the FAFSA form. Finally, student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution to financial need, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. If you do end up using credit cards to meet some expenses, pay off the outstanding balance in full every month.

Nursing & Medical Job Listings

Earning a CNA degree (Certified Nursing Assistant) is the first step towards becoming a fully-qualified nurse. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to join the workforce quickly. The next step in a nursing career is to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). These are year-long programs, in which you'll work under an RN distributing meds, treating wounds, and providing basic patient care.

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
